Barbecues are the perfect arena to experiment with your cooking. At Outdoorsy, we love trying new food and different recipes, that said, sometimes the most simple ones are the best.
Great for impressing your guests but simple and easy-to-make for you, these Chinese-style grilled prawns are the perfect alfresco accompaniment.
You can use any size prawns for this recipe, with the shells on or off, whichever you prefer, we do recommend however that you let the ingredients marinade overnight to produce a more flavoursome dish.
- 225g prawns
- 1 spring onion stalk
- 2 cloves of garlic (minced)
- 2 tsps ginger
- 1 tsp chilli flakes (fresh and dried both work well)
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 1 tsp cooking oil
- Bamboo skewers – soaked in water for 30 minutes
Step 1 – Add all your ingredients to a bowl, mix thoroughly, making sure to coat your prawns – refrigerate overnight or proceed to the next step.
Step 2 – Skewer your prawns – if you have extra large prawns, you might want to use two bamboo skewers for each.
Step 3 – Pre-heat your barbecue grill to a high heat and once your grill is hot enough put your skewers on to cook for 2-4 minutes on each side. Serve immediately and enjoy!
As well as being great for barbecues, you can also cook your prawns under the grill using the same method but cooking for around 4 minutes each side until cooked through.
